Essential Points for Great Accomplishment (Da Cheng Jie Yao – 大成捷要), as a diary notes recording practical alchemy practice, was written by Liu Hua Yang, the important figure of Taoism as well as a famous inner alchemy practitioner (1736 -?). There were two kinds of popular manuscript, one was owned by Ma Yuxiu who lived in Chongfu temple of Mount Song, Henan Province. Another one was said to be copied from the Mount Song manuscript by a man called Wang Qianyi who later brought it to Grand Purity temple, Mount ZhiShan, Shandong Province. This version of manuscript began to circulate when Liaonning Grand Purity temple began to printed it in large quantity.

Many inner alchemy practitioners held this book contains precise and appropriate arguments and should be regarded as rare “Secret Code” in guiding the inner alchemy practice. By introduction from Priest Wang Quanqi, such copy was submitted to Zhu Wenbin for editing and necessary correction had been made by Zhu Wenbin.

So, thanks to Zhujun Wen’s unswerving efforts and devotion, for his aspiration in providing more understanding into this hidden study! Zhu is said to read the book with great concentration, and he devoted to figuring out the hidden points from each line, practiced hard, took captive of dragon and tiger, achieved the intercourse between water and fire, regained the youth, and benefited greatly for this book. This book is generally regarded as the secret guiding book for Complete Authenticity School of Taoism.

This book, an edited by some great practitioners, carried so many excepts from books belonging to many schools of Taoist inner alchemy and the books it mentioned reached up to 164 in number. As a three volume book, Essential Points for Great Accomplishment comprehensively quoted secret details from each Taoist school, with its text easy to understand, and view points from different perspective. So, it is very valuable reference for qigong practitioners. For beginners, there will be some reading difficulties, and some problems are expected to be encountered when in practice. Therefore, guidance and help from some experienced teachers are essential for success.

The book holds that Taoism inner alchemy practice should be divided into four steps: 1. Transform Jing into Ch’i , to lay foundation in one hundred days; 2. Transform Ch’I into Shen, ten month of incubation; 3. Transform Shen into voidness, nine years in transform physical body into light; 4. Transform voidness to be in accord with Tao. With its content clear and complete, this book is known to tell the shortcut leading to eventual enlightenment.
